Poet Noah Blaustein, author of After Party: Poems and Jim Hagan will read at Mac's on Saturday, September 21st at 7 p.m. The geography of After Party includes married life and fatherhood, a childhood survived if not fully understood, the transition from youth to an adulthood filled with responsibilities, and the dangers of our current world and culture--on a personal and global scale--that can distract and disrupt life and our idea of home. By turns funny and heartbreaking, flirtatious and frank, Blaustein never lets his aggravation or confusion overwhelm his sense of gratitude for the life he leads and those he loves. Noah Blaustein has had published poems in Zyzzyva, Massachusetts Review, Harvard Review, Barrow Street, Poetry Daily, The Fish Anthology (selected by Billy Collins), Orion, Pleiades and many other journals. Noah's first book, Flirt was selected by Kevin Prufer for University of New Mexico's Mary Burritt Christiansen Poetry Series edited by Hilda Ras. The anthology he edited, Motion: American Sports Poems was an editor's pick of National Public Radio and The Boston Globe as well as a Librarian's Pick of the New York Public Library. Jim Hagan has had essays and poems published by Bottom Dog Press and in Ploughshares, Penguin Review, and other publications. He was a recipient of the annual William Redding poetry award from Larry's Poetry Forum in Columbus, Ohio. Jim's inspiration has come from from his years working as a laborer in steel mills; as a brakeman on the railroad; and his career as a union organizer. He also draws inspiration from the dynamics of growing up with 13 brothers and sisters and a mom and dad who imbued the family with a deep commitment for social justice.
